The Most Important Photo In My Life

When I was five years old my grandfather took a picture of me that we then immediately processed and printed. It was the first picture I had ever printed and the photographic process transfixed me. My grandfather took so much care in creating the print and, with me being so young, was incredibly patient in showing me how it was done. Looking back on the experience I now hope to embody those qualities that he displayed so gracefully. My grandfather had an enormous camera collection and I was always curious to find out more about how these complex machines worked. Although it is a picture of myself, the material object reminds me of so much more then what I looked like at five. Many of my interests have come from my grandfather’s influence on me as a child and so looking at this photo I am reminded of him and all that he gave to my life.

  1. He loved you very much not only as a grandson but as a kindred spirit too. He was a self taught man and in many ways you are too.

  2. This is so amazingly touching, this random blog I have run across. Thank you for taking the time to share this moment, and your history in the moment. Very beautiful. The essence of love and art combined.
